OSRS is mainly popular because it’s the 2007 backup with some new development happening, It sparks a lot of nostalgia and many people who have been playing since the beginning prefer the familiar look and combat system, I’ve been playing since 2006 but I always felt like RS3 is the true game moving forward and OSRS is more of a time capsule that’s fun to hop into from time to time, That being said, OSRS is more popular, and player killing is essentially only a thing in OSRS
